I'll have you know: my mind is never calm. Just that the font of this comment is Script freaks me the buzz out.
Cool game!
I think it suffers from a very common issue with incremental games, which is that the pace constantly slows down with no end in sight.
In this game's case, that slowdown is most extreme for honey collection. The honey collection rate scales linearly with number of upgrades, while cost scales exponentially with number of upgrades. This means time needed to upgrade scales by (2^x)/x with the number of upgrades.
This might be fine if there was an end state, but the lack of an end state means the player only stops when they give up. They will give up here when they get frustrated that no progress is being made, leaving a bad taste in their mouth.
this game is awesome! ngl i had a lotta fun playing it c:
tho i did notice a bug(?) where when you upgraded the queens honey capacity to 2, she was actually able to pick up 3 at a time :O and when you upgraded to 3, she could pick up 4, so on. the same happened for the honey multiplier, it would turn into 3 pieces when it should've been 2.
not exactly an issue, it didnt upset the experience at all, i just wanted to let you know in case you wanted to squish the bugs :3
I like the game! One thing that almost made me quit early on: I didn't get that I have to collect the honey and bring it to the black center. So maybe instead of placing the instruction out-of-context (left border) you should place it riight in the center of the black area (collect honey and bring it here).
Thank you for the suggestion! Currently the game is no longer in development (it was just meant to be a jam game), but if I ever work on it again I'll take your suggestion into account! Thanks for playing!
Suggestions:
1. Actively update the honey counter while the buy menu is open.
2. Add a separate honey gauge on the bee so you know when you're at capacity.
3. Remove collision on bees.
I keep accidentally exiting the game when I'm trying to exit the shop. "Escape == Exit whatever menu you're currently in" is just muscle memory or something. Is there a way to only make Esc exit the game when you're not in the shop, or would that just not be worth the effort for this jam game?
Thanks for the comment! I just uploaded a new version onto this page, both web build and for Windows with a number of fixes, including using ESC to open/close the menu.
online game is working for me.
Would be great if we could upgrade how much honey we can carry as I am currently sitting on a field with tons of ready honey on it and neither me nor my 6 or so honey collector can harvest it fast enough, so we have like a +1 or +2 honey per second rate right now :-/
Also nice font here in the comments :-)
Thank you for the feedback! I just updated the game, with a new "Queen Honey Max" upgrade that implements your suggestion. I also sped up the honey bees so that they work a little more efficiently. Enjoy!
cool, thanks.
Also one thing I only realized cause I now see the pollen amount the queen can carry:
from what I see from the pollen bees, 1 polln equals 1 polienated field .This might hold true if you click each field.
however so far I never cared or had to patience to fly from field to field and click each time.
so I jsut held left mouse button and flew over the area.
with a full backpack of 30 pollens, this always only created 6 polienated fields.
I dont know if that was intentional so but since the pollen bees have a 1 to 1 ratio there isntead of my 5 to 1, I was wondering if this is a bug o intentional?
1 pollenated honeycomb = 5 pollen. The queen starts with a base of 30 pollen that she can store, meaning 6 fields. The pollen bees actually randomly roam the flowers until they themselves collect 5 pollen, which is their internal storage. Once they have 5 pollen, a bool is switched on and they go back and deposit it into a honeycomb. I never made bars over their head because it just was never necessary and was a background balancing mechanic that looked ugly if it was visualized. You have a good eye though, nice catch!
well, it was simple math:
obviously each full bar brought us 6 fields. and since she can have max 30 pollens according to upgrade screen, it's 5 pollen per fields.
for the worker bees, I didnt follow them or I would have known that each one collects 5 pollen and not jsut one :-)
You already participated in another jam? Damn that's impressive! I really like your new game. The art style and music gives a very chill vibe. The idea itself is very cool. You need to spend a lot of time in order to collect enough honey which is a little frustrating. Overall great game. (I can't find this game on the jam submissions page. Did you missed the deadline?)
Hey John, thanks for playing! I didn't miss the submission deadline but for some reason when I submitted it, itch messed up and removed it from the jam! I'm trying to get in touch with one of the organizers to get it fixed but for now I'm out of the jam but up one portfolio game!
I got the game re-submitted into the jam! Woohoo
That's great news!
